Kigali, May 25  ̶   “ Today is Africa Day, a global celebration of Africa’s rich history, cultural diversity and influence on the global stage. As we head into the final week of the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), where 12 of the best teams from 12 African countries are making history and competing to be crowned the first BAL champion, we are reminded that the league is capable of playing a key role in shaping the continent’s progress for decades to come. The BAL’s impact will be felt well beyond the court. This league will support the development of Africa’s sports ecosystem, drive economic growth in communities across the continent, and shine a light on Africa’s capacity to be a global leader. We believe basketball has the power to change lives, and as we celebrate this year’s Africa Day, we’re encouraged by how far we’ve come and the role sport can play in shaping Africa’s bright future.”
